IPv6 ULA Generator

Generates RFC 4193 IPv6 ULA prefixes. A fresh random 40-bit Global ID is generated on each click.

How It Works

The IPv6 ULA Generator implements RFC 4193 standards to create Unique Local Addresses for private network use. When you generate a prefix, the tool creates a random 40-bit Global ID and combines it with the fd00::/8 prefix to produce a unique /48 prefix. This ensures your private IPv6 addresses are statistically unique across different networks, preventing address collisions even if multiple organizations independently generate their own ULAs.

The generator allows you to customize your network further by specifying subnet configurations. After generating your base /48 prefix, you can divide it into smaller subnets using the /49 to /64 range, depending on your network segmentation requirements. All calculations are performed client-side in your browser, meaning no data is transmitted to external servers.

Unlike global unicast addresses, ULAs are designed exclusively for private networks and will never route on the public internet. This makes them ideal for internal infrastructure, isolated networks, and scenarios where you need guaranteed non-routable IPv6 addresses without relying on IANA assignments.

Common Use Cases

  • Private Data Center Networks: Generate unique ULA prefixes for internal infrastructure that will never be exposed to the internet
  • Virtual Lab Environments: Create isolated IPv6 subnets for testing and development without conflicts with production networks
  • Multi-Site Private Networks: Generate distinct /48 prefixes for each location in a distributed private network architecture
  • IoT Device Networks: Assign ULA subnets to IoT devices and edge computing nodes in controlled environments
  • Network Segmentation: Divide generated /48 prefixes into smaller subnets for security domains, VLANs, and departmental networks
